FAQs
Read our FAQs here
Where is your office located?
Our office is located in Taunton town centre.
Do you just represent clients in Taunton?
No. Although our office is based in Taunton we frequently advise and represent clients in surrounding areas including Somerset, North Somerset, Devon and sometimes further afield.
Do I have to come to your office for an appointment?
No, we can also offer remote appointments by telephone or Microsoft teams or arrange an alternative meeting venue local to you.
What areas of law do you advise on?
We frequently advise clients in relation to matrimonial matters, domestic abuse, private law children matters and public law children matters. We are unable to give advice in relation to criminal matters, wills and probate, conveyancing or housing. Please see our services page for further details.
Do you provide mediation or collaborative law services?
We do not provide mediation or collaborative law services but we can signpost you to the resource best suited to your individual requirements. We can provide you with legal advice alongside the mediation or collaborative process and we can draw up an order for the approval of the court to conclude any memorandum of understanding that you reach.
What happens if I can’t afford to pay privately?
Legal aid may be available to cover your legal costs depending on what your matter relates to and your financial circumstances. Please see our funding page for further information.
I have communication difficulties, how can you help?
We can tailor our advice and the way we represent you to accommodate any communication difficulties and make sure you have the support you require to receive and understand legal advice and to fairly take part in any proceedings.
Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?
If you have an Advocate or a Support Worker, you are welcome to bring such a person with you to an appointment. We may need to consider whether it is appropriate to allow a relative or a family friend to join the meeting as the subject matter may be highly confidential particularly if your case concerns a child. We also need to bear in mind that a family member may have their own agenda that could conflict with your best interest and we need to be sure that we are taking your own unfettered advice and not something driven by a third party.
Under no circumstances will we discuss your case in the presence of a child. So please arrange for another adult to look after your children when you attend for an appointment. Even if the child is too young to understand what we are saying, he/she will become upset if you are upset.
If you bring someone with you to court, they may not be allowed into the courtroom. You also need to be careful who you bring with you for support as the atmosphere can sometimes be rather tense and a new partner, in particular can make matters far worse.
Does your firm have any accreditations?
Yes, we are accredited by the Law Society with their approved Practice Management Standard that is called Lexcel. This means that we are subject to annual assessments by an independent quality control company and have to meet rigorous standards of client care and practice management standards. Our lawyers hold their own individual accreditations also to reflect their expertise including the children law accreditation and resolution accreditations.
